The Littleton Massachusetts Water Department has conducted numerous redevelopments of their Spectacle Pond # 5 Well over the past 15 years. At a pumping rate from 650-800gpm, the iron and manganese concentrations rose with increasing use, to their current levels of 0.50 and 0.98 mg/l, respectively. Due to significant increase in the rate of specific capacity reduction, the Department was forced to increase the frequency of well redevelopment. The following graph shows the results of the last four redevelopment processes.
The use of a blend of Muriatic and Hydroxyacetic acids lost its effectiveness, prompting theDepartment to seek alternating redevelopment methods. Results of AquaFreed and Pantonite treatments show equal or better performance with Pantonite, at areduced cost and impact to the physical infrastructure of the well.
